Powerboat Courses – Duttons Powerboat

The RYA Powerboat course is the perfect way to gain experience and obtain your powerboat license. There are 3 certification levels for this, all of which can be taken with us.

What Is Included?

Everything that you need to complete the course is included in the course. The exam and certification fee is included in all of the courses too.

Level 1

Basic operation of Powerboats.

1 day course.
No previous experience.
Basic operations of powerboat:
Moving & Reversing
Handling

What do I need to bring?

You will be sent joining instructions to inform you of what items to bring. In general we recommend bringing waterproof clothing for use on the boat. We also recommend having your own lifejacket if you are looking to progress in powerboat activities. We can offer assistance from our online or in-store shop, just ask.

How is the course structured?

All 3 of the above courses, are a combination of theory and practical. We will however spend most of our time on the water. We generally meet at the training centre, and head out onto the water. We will break for lunch and continue in the afternoon back outside.

Can I complete level 1 and 2 together?

Yes, we highly recommend doing this. This would be done by completing Level 1 on the first day and level 2 on the second.

How long does the certification last?

The Level 2 and Advanced Powerboat certifications do not expire. The commercial element needs to be re-validated every 2 years.

Can the licence be commercially endorsed?

Yes. Both the Level 2 and Advanced can be commercially endorsed. Level 2 requires the following additional courses in order to do this: VHF, Sea Survival, Professional responsibilities and a MG1 Medical. The Advanced requires the same additional courses, in date within 2 years, and an external commercial assessment being completed.
